🔗 Share this article Apex Legends' Niche Traversal Techniques Become Widely Accessible This Season The game developers have a special treat prepared for the popular battle royale gamers, perfectly timed for the holidays. Fans of the battle royale's highly fluid traversal will be pleased to learn that a new movement mechanic will be introduced when Season 27: Amped goes live on November 4th. Unveiling The Mantle Boost Dubbed "Mantle Boosting" by the developers, this feature provides gamers a surge of propulsion when scaling ledges and walls. According to lead battle royale designer the design lead, Mantle Boosting has unofficially been a feature of the game for quite a while, usually referred to as "mantle jumping." But it's no easy feat for casual gamers, and is mainly used by competitive players in Ranked Mode or tournaments. In this update, Respawn simplifies the process for everyone to successfully perform these tricky speed-boosts. "This technique existed in Apex for a while, but executing it isn't easy to perform and gamers would never know it's possible without external guides," Canavese explains. "Now including a Mantle Boost indicator so users can easily see the timing to trigger the high-octane traversal skill, opening up the feature and introducing fresh strategies to play for more players." The Reasoning Behind Opening Up Advanced Mechanics What's the reason for making a previously obscure technique available to everyone? Lead Legend designer the development lead says the team wants gamers to feel powerful — including ones who are new. "[The playerbase] performs other crazy stuff like super-gliding and tap-strafes, and we examined at our competition, observed what our players execute, and we wondered, 'How can we provide these capabilities to a broader audience?'" Mohan clarifies. "Because currently, some of these techniques are somewhat awkward to use — it requires to remap your keybinds and execute within precise timings. We proposed, 'What if we create a more official implementation?'" The Amped Update Emphasis on Mobility Movement is primarily the name of the game in Season 27, with Legends the gravity mage, the defensive specialist, and the aerial combatant receiving buffs to maintain them mobile. The cooldown period on Horizon's Gravity Lift is shorter, and the Gravity Lift will boost players upward much quicker than it used to. Rampart's Amped Cover now include a roof and capability to grant movement bonuses to allies in range. But it's aerial this Legend who's getting significant improvements this season, with various adjustments applied to make her more potent, faster, and more lethal. "In my opinion many agree that her moment has arrived," states Legend designer Ian Holstead. "Certainly she was top-tier previously, but due to the addition of new Legends, mobility perks, and Evac Towers, it felt like she's not very relevant in current Apex. It was a really great opportunity for the team to revisit multiple elements in her abilities and sort of restore her to her glory days." Valkyrie's Upgrades To reclaim her competitive status in the game's meta, the developer says the team assessed all her skills and introduced some powerful modifications. Her jetpack received improvements, increasing her speed during flight, and this equipment regenerates much quicker, allowing the player to spend more time aloft. Now she won't be harmed from her own Missile Swarm, which was enhanced to tag enemies who are hit from the missiles. Her Skyward Dive ability — which launches her entire squad into the air for repositioning or retreat — requires much less time to activate. She's also getting recently added perk choices that users can select to reduce fuel consumption, expand the spread of her rockets, or accelerate her Skyward Dive takeoff time. "Valkyrie's equipment fulfills that jet-fighter fantasy," he says. Olympus Improvements Even the game's lone airborne map, Olympus, is getting a mobility-focused overhaul, with an extensive redesign that opens up bottlenecks and makes claiming the high ground more manageable. The developers says Apex Legends Season 27 is all about providing gamers the resources required to compete in matches. "Really, we were looking at the game's core identity as a movement shooter," says lead Legend designer the lead. The battle royale Season 27: Amped releases November 4th at the specified times.
