Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening stating they are aware of domestic violence allegations made public in social media posts by a ex-partner of player Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the league office.

The team omitted the name of Rice by name in their announcement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention the athlete directly, posted a set of images on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones stated the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the team selected in the 2023 draft.

No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.

Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles

Rice was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals hurt. He was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.

On the field, Rice finished the year with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
