Specialists Detect Kremlin Intimidation Campaign Against Tomahawk Employment

Moscow is implementing a psychological influence campaign of warnings to discourage the America from supplying Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine, according to defense experts. A senior official remarked: “We are familiar with these missiles very well, how they fly, methods to intercept them, we encountered them in the Syrian conflict, so this is not innovative. Only those who supply them and the operators will face consequences … We will identify methods to damage those who oppose our interests.”

Ukraine's Defensive Operations Situation

Ukraine's military were inflicting heavy losses in a strategic push in the Donetsk front, the primary conflict zone, Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on midweek. The Ukrainian president's account, following a report by his senior military officer, contradicted Vladimir Putin's speech before defense leadership a previous day in which he asserted Moscow's forces maintained the strategic initiative in every combat zone.

According to analysis dated the beginning of October, defense researchers said Russia was suffering significant losses, particularly from drone strikes by Ukraine, in compensation of limited tactical advances. Defending units, Zelenskyy said, were “maintaining our defense along multiple fronts”, highlighting especially Kupiansk, a largely destroyed urban area in north-eastern Ukraine under heavy Russian assaults for months.

Regional Conditions

The regional governor in Ukraine's southern region of the Kherson oblast said Russian attacks on Wednesday caused three deaths in and around the regional capital of the oblast center. Local authorities of northern Sumy, on the northern frontier with neighboring Russia, said three fatalities occurred in Russian drone attacks in multiple locations. Ukraine's air force said it intercepted or jammed most of the Russian strike and decoy drones overnight into Wednesday.

A Russian attack seriously damaged one of Ukraine's thermal power plants, authorities said on midweek. Two employees were harmed during the strike, based on information from energy company officials. Officials offered no further information, regarding the plant's location, but national sources said attacks targeted power facilities in northern Ukraine, southern Ukraine and eastern Ukraine.

Civilian Consequences

In the northern Ukrainian city of northeastern Ukraine, significantly damaged by the offensive operations against the power supply, officials have put up tents where civilians are able to warm up, drink hot tea, charge their phones and obtain emotional assistance, according to local official.

Global Measures

Ukraine's ambassador to Nato on midweek urged NATO members to accelerate procurement of American military equipment for Ukraine. “The situation isn't that we prefer US equipment instead of French or German or alternative military systems – the issue is that we are asking the United States for equipment that European nations can't provide,” said the diplomatic representative.

German federal police will immediately gain permission to shoot down UAVs, interior minister announced on Wednesday, following multiple drone sightings believed to be Moscow's attempts to spy and intimidate. Announcing legal changes, the minister said law enforcement would receive permission “to implement advanced technological measures against unmanned aircraft dangers, including electronic countermeasures, signal disruption, satellite signal blocking, but also with physical means”.

European Defense Issues

European Commission President said on Wednesday that Europe must strengthen its defenses to counter complex threat operations following airspace breaches, cyber-attacks and submarine infrastructure disruption. “These aren't random harassment. This represents a organized and growing strategy,” the official said in a presentation to the European parliament. “Several occurrences are isolated incidents, but several, many, frequent – this is a intentional and focused grey zone campaign against Europe, and European countries should answer.”

Refugee Situation

The Swiss government has prolonged its protection status provided to displaced Ukrainians to at least March 2027. Humanitarian status, which permits refugees to journey internationally as well as seek employment there, is generally limited to a single year but can be extended. “The decision demonstrates the ongoing precarious security situation and continuing offensive operations across large parts of Ukraine,” said a federal announcement. “Notwithstanding international peace efforts, a lasting stabilisation that would permit safe return is not projected in the coming years.”
